Exploration, Emotion, Experiences
That’s what PADI Advanced Open Water Diver is all about. It doesn’t have to be "advanced" to do so - it’s designed to advance your dive, so you can start immediately once you get your PADI Open Water Diver certification. The course helps you build confidence and expand your diving skills through different Adventure Dives. Try different specialties while gaining experience under the supervision of your PADI instructor. Log dives and develop capabilities while finding new ways to have fun diving.
You will plan your learning schedule with your instructor by choosing from a long list of Adventure Dives. There are two mandatory dives - Depth and Underwater Navigation - and you will choose the other three to make a total of five dives.
During the Deep Adventure Dive, you will learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of diving deeper. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive polishes your navigation skills with compass and helps you navigate better using flapping cycles, visual references and time.
The other knowledge and skills you will acquire will vary with your interests and the adventures you have - photography, buoyancy control, fish identification, exploring sunken ships and much more.
In addition to using basic diving equipment, you will need a compass and diving tool. Your PADI Instructor will explain the equipment you need and may suggest additional equipment, such as a diving torch for night diving or a search and recovery dive lift bag.
PADI (Junior) Open Water Divers who are at least 12 years old are ready to take the plunge and enroll in an Advanced Open Water Diver course. Young divers can only participate in certain Adventure Dives - Ask your PADI Instructor.
If you are already an Adventure Diver, you only need to complete two more Adventure Dives to get the Advanced Open Water Diver certification.
¡Get credit! Each Adventure Immersion can serve as credit for the first dive of the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver Course. If you have already done a specialty diving course, ask your instructor if you have earned credit for an Adventure Dive.
